Legal aspects of detransition

In the Netherlands, change of sex registration is possible in both directions via the same administrative procedure.

Reversing sex registration

In the Netherlands, change of sex registration is possible in both directions via the same administrative procedure. A previously changed sex registration can be changed again — although the same conditions apply as for the first change.

Name change

A previously changed first name can be changed again via the usual procedure with the Minister of Justice and Security. There are costs and a processing time involved.

Documents

Documents such as passport, driver's licence, BSN registration and diplomas must be re-adjusted. Some institutions hold historical records that cannot all be reversed.
