National Gender Service
Adult gender care in Ireland mainly runs through the National Gender Service at St Columcille's Hospital (Loughlinstown). Waiting times are long.
Youth care
For young people new guidelines have been under development since 2024, drawing on the British Cass Review. Referrals to the Tavistock clinic in London — previously a common route — ended with its closure.
Legal framework
The Gender Recognition Act (2015) allows self-declaration from the age of eighteen; for sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds an additional procedure applies.
