Since June 2023 the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act 2021 has allowed changes of gender registration on the basis of self-declaration.

Clinical care
Gender care is provided regionally by District Health Boards. In 2024 the Minister of Health announced a review of puberty blockers in young people, following international developments including the Cass Review.
