For the Cass Review the University of York carried out several systematic reviews of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, social transition and treatment outcomes in young people with gender dysphoria. The reviews were published in 2024 in BMJ Archives of Disease in Childhood.

NICE reviews (2020)

In 2020 the British NICE published two evidence reviews which concluded that the evidence for the effects of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones on psychological wellbeing in young people was of very low quality.

SBU (Sweden) and COHERE (Finland)

The Swedish and Finnish health technology assessment bodies reached similar conclusions. These reviews provide the scientific underpinning for the Scandinavian policy changes.
