Trans and education internationally
US policy varies widely by state.
United States
US policy varies widely by state. Some states (California, New York) require schools to provide support to transgender pupils; other states (Florida, Texas) have introduced restrictions on pronouns, sport and information about gender at school.
United Kingdom
In 2024, the UK Department for Education published draft guidelines prescribing more caution around social transition of pupils, in line with recommendations from the Cass Review.
France and Scandinavia
France applies guidelines for schools by circular. Sweden and Finland, following their reorientation in youth gender care, also place more emphasis in education on careful handling of gender dysphoria and social transition.
