Profile

Generazione D documents what happens when a country moves away from the affirmative model. The association translates British and Scandinavian policy documents into Italian, analyzes new systematic reviews and holds up a mirror to the Italian parliament and healthcare sector: how much longer will Italy continue to follow a model that is already being dismantled in its country of origin? The situation in Italy is outlined under gender care in Italy.

Positions

  • The British Cass Review and NHS England’s decision to remove puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones from standard care serve as the international reference point.
  • Affirmative care without a prior psychological evaluation harms minors — especially girls and young people with co-occurring autism or trauma.
  • Parental involvement is not an obstacle but a prerequisite for responsible care.
  • Social transition at school without parental involvement is a medical intervention without informed consent.

Origins and background

The association spells its name as GenerAzioneD and describes itself as a non-profit cultural association unaffiliated with any political party or religious denomination. According to its own website, it emerged from a meeting between parents whose children began identifying as transgender, often from one day to the next and without any signs during childhood. Today, anyone personally or professionally involved in the subject is welcome to join. The association states that it opposes all forms of discrimination.

What the organization does

Its aim is to provide information about gender dysphoria and gender incongruence in children, adolescents and young adults. The website brings together personal stories, news, translated articles from other countries, contributions from experts, an overview of guidelines in other countries and a database of scientific studies. Parents in a similar situation can get in touch to exchange experiences with others. Much of the material relates to the British Cass Review. When reading, bear in mind that the selection of articles reflects the association’s position. Other organizations can be found among the external sources.

Generazione D operates in the same European field as EGGÖ in Austria and MeMoMa in the Netherlands. A consistent picture is emerging: parent groups and critical professionals are sounding the alarm at the same time as British, Swedish and Finnish healthcare authorities are reviewing their policies.
