What you can find
The website features viewpoints, articles, and information about the organization's activities. Genspect advocates exploratory psychotherapy and is also the organization behind the Stats for Gender website. Topics such as detransition and rapid-onset gender dysphoria are discussed extensively.
Background and criticism
Genspect is highly controversial. In 2023, the Southern Poverty Law Center designated the organization an anti-LGBTQ hate group, and medical professional associations such as WPATH and the American Academy of Pediatrics do not share Genspect's views. Professional organizations consider the concept of rapid-onset gender dysphoria insufficiently substantiated. Genspect itself says it advocates evidence-based care. The organization's views are also outlined on genspect.nl.
Organization and projects
Genspect is registered in the United States as a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status and relies on donations. The organization describes itself as international, impartial, and interdisciplinary, and says it is active in more than 25 countries, with branches in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, among others. Stella O'Malley is its director. In addition to Stats for Gender, its projects include Beyond Trans, which offers free therapeutic programs to people who are questioning their transition, and The Gender Framework, a guide for professionals and families. The organization's think tank is called the Killarney Group.
Conferences and campaigns
Genspect organizes conferences. In April 2023, detransitioners, Ken Zucker, Maya Forstater, and Helen Joyce, among others, gathered in Killarney, Ireland, and in September 2025, The Bigger Picture took place in Albuquerque. Detrans Awareness Day was scheduled to take place in Washington on March 12, 2026. A conference that was due to take place at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London in March 2022 was canceled following complaints. The organization also engages in legislation and legal proceedings, for example by opposing bills concerning a ban on conversion practices in various countries. The article Therapy First and Genspect clash over approach to gender care discusses a disagreement with a related professional organization.
