Reduxx
Reduxx is an English-language news and opinion site that presents itself as feminist and pro-woman. The site was founded by Canadian journalist Anna Slatz and writer Genevieve Gluck.
What you'll find
Reduxx mainly reports on topics where gender policy intersects with sex-segregated facilities: prisons, sports, shelters and criminal cases. Its reports come from many countries. The site also publishes opinion pieces on gender identity and women's rights.
Why it's included
The site is often cited in international debates about gender and society and regularly covers cases that receive little attention elsewhere. Reduxx is also controversial. Critics, including a columnist for The Washington Post, point out that the site focuses almost exclusively on crimes of which transgender people are suspected and pays little attention to other feminist issues. Its selection is therefore one-sided; checking the original source is advisable.
Founding and editorial team
According to its own site, Reduxx has existed since January 2022. Anna Slatz is editor-in-chief, while co-founder Genevieve Gluck is responsible for investigative work. The editorial team is small and works across several countries: the site lists staff in places including Turkey, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Toronto and the southern United States. In addition to its regular group of writers and videographers, there is a list of freelance contributors. The site has a Spanish-language section, and one of its contributors translates reports into German. According to the editorial team, it wanted to create a platform that genuinely stands up for women and the protection of children.
Funding and approach
Reduxx says it is fully independent and receives no money from advocacy groups, governments or major media companies. The editorial page does not explain how its income is generated. It also lacks a description of its rules on corrections and the right of reply. For readers, this means that the claim of independence is a statement by the site itself and is not supported by figures. When reading a report, check which documents it is based on, such as a court ruling or a report in the local media, and look those up.
How to assess this source
Reduxx is primarily useful as a source for finding cases: the site draws attention to matters that are not picked up elsewhere or are reported only later. An older site with a similar approach is Women Are Human. What the site does not provide is context. A series of individual criminal cases says nothing about how often something occurs or about the risk posed by a group as a whole. That requires statistics, which the site rarely provides. The site's own description as pro-woman also makes clear that it takes a position rather than seeking to be a neutral reporter. The questions covered by these reports are addressed on this site under trans people and women's safety and gender and sport.
