The Daily Wire is a conservative American media company founded in 2015 by commentator Ben Shapiro and producer Jeremy Boreing. It publishes news and opinion on its website and also produces podcasts, films, and series for paying subscribers.

What you can find

The site reports daily on politics, culture, education, and sports. The Daily Wire publishes extensively about gender, including news reports on legislation and court cases, commentary, and original productions. The best known of these is the 2022 documentary What Is a Woman? by host Matt Walsh.

Background

The Daily Wire is not independent journalism in the neutral sense. The company openly takes sides in the American political debate and has been regularly criticized by fact-checkers for misleading or one-sided reporting. It is included on this list because it has a significant influence on the American debate. See also international developments.

Company and funding

The Daily Wire began on September 21, 2015. According to its own website, Shapiro and Boreing came up with the company and started it in 2015 together with Caleb Robinson. The initial capital of several million dollars came from brothers Dan and Farris Wilks, billionaires from the oil and gas industry. In September 2020, the company moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, Tennessee. Shapiro handed over the editor-in-chief role to John Bickley in June 2020. Boreing stepped down as co-CEO in March 2025. Robinson left in May 2026 and was succeeded by Mike Richards. By early 2022, annual revenue had exceeded $100 million, and in November 2022 the company passed the milestone of one million paying subscribers.

Hosts and productions

Regular contributors include Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles, Andrew Klavan, and Jordan Peterson. Candace Owens left in March 2024 after disagreements over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. What Is a Woman? was released on June 1, 2022. The comedy Lady Ballers followed on December 1, 2023, and the documentary Am I Racist? in September 2024. In October 2023, the company launched Bentkey, a platform with children's programming. The Daily Wire therefore produces its own entertainment and films that promote a particular view on gender.
