Belgian organization addressing gender dysphoria from the perspective of detransitioners, parents and clinicians who question the gender-affirmative standard pathway. Trilingual website (NL/FR/EN), based in Flanders.

More on this site: cryforrecognition.be. Background on policy in Belgium itself can be found under gender care in Belgium; a recent example from practice is the criticism of UZ Ghent following a rapid referral for a mastectomy. Another Flemish source on this site is the Humanistisch Verbond, which publishes opinion pieces on gender and gender dysphoria.

Mission and core values

The organization advocates for evidence-based information on gender dysphoria and opposes affirmative therapy as the only treatment option. Its core values are respect and equality, freedom of speech, acceptance of gay, lesbian and bisexual young people as themselves, and recognition of sex as binary and immutable. It distances itself from stigmatization.

Target groups

Young people questioning themselves.

Detransitioners — people who have discontinued or reversed a transition.

Parents of children with gender dysphoria.

Citizens who oppose what the organization refers to as 'gender ideology'.

What the organization offers

Testimonies — compiled personal stories from detransitioners, parents and clinicians (Tiger Reed, Michelle Alleva, Walt Heyer, Laura Becker, Dr. William Malone and others).

Facts — a topic page presenting eight core claims about biology, causes, risks and the international shift in thinking.

Current affairs — up-to-date reporting: the US$2 million jury verdict (February 2026), the UK Supreme Court ruling on biological sex (April 2025), the WPATH Files (March 2024) and the Zembla documentaries on puberty blockers.

The medical dossier on puberty blockers — how they work, their risks and the international reconsideration of their use — is available at puberteitsremmers.nl.

More on WPATH, the Standards of Care and the WPATH Files: wpath.nl.

Guides — Genspect survey for parents (Stella O'Malley), a concise guide for schools, and a leaflet for parents, Mama, papa, ik ben TRANS.

Sources — overviews of critical websites, multimedia and books in NL/FR/EN.

Activities

On 29 May 2026, Cry for Recognition organized a screening of Generation Trans in Leuven, with a panel featuring child psychiatrist Sophie Dechêne, psychologist Roelien den Ouden and Marianne Driessen (Athena Forum). The organization publishes the podcast with Mia Hughes on activist ideology in youth gender care and distributes the English-language film Detransitioners — A European Tragedy.

Compliance

The organization follows the Memorandum of Understanding of Protecting Puberty, which commits signatories to protecting adolescents from irreversible medical interventions.
