VoorZij

Voorzij is a Dutch foundation with the motto Clear thinking about equality. It advocates for the safety, dignity and rights of women and girls. According to the foundation's principles, a woman is an adult female and separate facilities and sports categories should continue to be based on sex.

What you can find

The website contains articles about the transgender law, gender care for young people, women's sports and safety, as well as documentaries, webinars and stories from parents and people who have undergone detransition. The foundation sends letters to the House of Representatives, organises meetings and publishes a newsletter.

Background

Voorzij opposes self-identification of sex and explicitly states that it does not speak on behalf of transgender people, referring readers to other organisations for that purpose. It is an advocacy organisation with a clearly defined position. See also developments in the Netherlands and legal matters.

The principles in more detail

The foundation sets out eight objectives. In addition to safeguarding the rights, safety and dignity of women, as well as sex-based facilities and sports, it calls special attention to three groups: women with autism, high sensitivity or giftedness, lesbian and bisexual women, and women traumatised by emotional or sexual violence. According to the foundation, sex is determined at conception and cannot be changed. It distinguishes sex as a biological fact from gender as a social role. The foundation opposes gender-neutral wording in which the word woman disappears. For information on the interests of transgender people, it refers readers to Transvisie. The page also refers to the Belgian parents' group Cry for Recognition and to Women's Declaration International.

Activities and campaigns

On 12 March 2025, Voorzij held the webinar Save women's sports. It was accompanied by a petition opposing men's participation in women's sports; the background to that debate can be found under gender and sport. The foundation was involved in several editions of Let Women Speak and organises meetings for parents of children who say they are trans or non-binary. It also screened the French documentary Mauvais Genre, Un Scandale Sanitaire. cryforrecognition.nl reports on a screening of the film in Ghent. The site features a leaflet for parents and refers to the book Gender Rebels by Sybilla Claus. Voorzij asks for donations and sells its own merchandise.

How to use and assess this source

Voorzij is one of the few Dutch organisations that promotes a gender-critical viewpoint. A related blog on this list is Pro Vrouw. The articles are advocacy pieces that adopt the perspective of women and parents. Anyone who wants to know what the law itself provides can find that information under the transgender law.
