Gendersekte.nl

A cult studies analysis of the gender movement — not about persons, but about doctrine and institutional dynamics.

What is Gendersekte.nl?

Gendersekte.nl applies academic cult-studies research to the contemporary gender movement. The core question: what happens when you apply frameworks developed to analyse cults — the thinking of Lifton (1961), Hassan, Singer and Langone — to organised structures within the gender sector? Which patterns fit, which do not?

What is on it?

The site offers four theoretical cornerstones:

  • Robert Jay Lifton (1961) — 'eight criteria for thought reform' from his study on Chinese brainwashing;
  • Steven Hassan — BITE model (Behavior, Information, Thought, Emotional control);
  • Margaret Singer — 'six conditions of thought reform';
  • Michael Langone (ICSA) — research frameworks on cults and cult-like groups.

Subsequently, the site offers twelve analysis criteria, twelve case studies, eight organisation descriptions and four comparative analyses. Topics range from governance structure and funding sources to language prescriptions, in-group/out-group rhetoric, and the treatment of apostates.

For whom?

For academically interested readers, social scientists, journalists and people who want to understand the sociology of the contemporary gender movement. The site is not intended for those seeking information about being transgender as a personal experience; for that there are other projects in the network.

Tone and approach

Several disclaimers emphasise what the analysis is not: not an analysis of individuals, but of doctrinal mechanisms and institutional patterns. Sources are scientific (Lifton 1961, Hassan, Singer, peer-reviewed cult studies). The approach requires some training in sociology or psychology to fully appreciate.

Place within the network

The sociological analysis layer of the network. An important caveat: applying a cult-studies framework to a social movement is always analytically interesting and always rhetorically loaded. The site works explicitly on that boundary — those who want to see how far the framework reaches find the material here.
